When Sa'ada was about thirteen years old she attended the wedding of a family friend to a Lebanese man. One of the reception's entertainments was a belly dancer who danced right up to her table and reassured Sa'ada that it was "okay to look" -- she was terrified and fascinated all at the same time. The friendliness and exuberant expression of this unknown dancer made a big impression on her. A few years later, she saw some eastern dancers at a cultural event and knew this was something she had to pursue in earnest.

Her experience in modern styles and raqs sharqi has lead her to her greatest passion: folkloric dances. Her deep interest in them has led her to study the many diverse cultures, histories, and costumes that can be understood as mid-eastern dance. Her degree in History has led her to respect and further explore these cultural expressions.

Her experience with traditional, classic, and folkloric styles gives her dancing a grounded sense of realness, and allows her to more aptly explore modern styles of dance such as fusion and lyrical bellydance.

She homebirthed her two daughters, and has a third child on the way in Summer 2009, and feels this enhances her understanding of the woman-ness that this dance can express as well as the benefits of this dance to the female experience of pregnancy and birth.

Dance is one of her greatest passions and an expression of understanding of life. It is an extension of herself, and an opportunity to share her creativity with others. Sa'ada is an Arabic name which means "felicity", and describes the deep joy she feels in this artful expression of femininity.
